Of course, these are not unbreakable rules, just some guidelines to get you thinking about what you are looking for. Idealists NF — These individuals might have careers in non-profits, counseling, teaching, writing, sociology, and other areas that allow them to employ their intuition, empathy, faith in humanity, and general cuddliness. Keep a look out for pictures of volunteer activities and a mention of the desire to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and others. Thus, mentions of philosophical or political theories and ideals often pop up in their profiles or in early conversations, as does their desire to discuss, analyze, debate, and sometimes even change their minds about the issues at hand.

Guardians SJ — Working in business, the military, analytics, or for the IRS, people of this temperament are often traditional and appreciate jobs where there is a clear power structure, especially if they end up on top. Artisans SP — Despite the name, not all Artisans spend their days creating their own Sistine Chapels—although some certainly do—and people of this temperament can be found in medical assistant positions, in schools, in restaurants, and as contractors.

Artisans tend to live in the present and be spontaneous, so pictures of their sky-diving excursions might appear, along with a passion for sports and other athletic pursuits. In addition to the four dimensions of personality type, you might also want to consider the Big Five personality traits—openness, conscientiousness, agreeableness, extraversion, and neuroticism. Agreeableness is another facet of personality that can be hard to accurately read from an online profile. People tend to downplay their flaws online.

Extraversion — Lots of pictures of the person in big groups or at loud and crowded places would be a clear indicator, as would describing oneself as a people-person. However, there are other more subtle clues as well. Does the person own a dog? Openness — The previously mentioned study also found that cat people often score higher on openness than dog people do, and they are likely to be more liberal politically, based on a survey performed by TIME.

However, much like with agreeableness and neuroticism, people are more likely to showcase the positive side of openness and not publicly announce if they are actually close-minded bigots. Conscientiousness — Spelling and grammar errors in a profile provide a huge flashing sign that indicates the person is not especially conscientious.

Additionally, a highly conscientious person is more likely to talk about what he or she is looking for in a partner in their profile, rather than just about his or herself, as more conscientious people tend to put more thought into exactly what type of person would make an ideal significant other. Project Evolove looks at personality types; OkCupid calculates percent compatibility and allows for an extensive profile; eHarmony purportedly offers the most intense compatibility screening of any mainstream site; Tinder believes that a picture is worth a thousand words. It would be nice to have a steady someone in my life, but thinking about it just makes me sad and lonesome and I'm not willing to go out of my way to play out ridiculous mating rituals with strangers.

It's better to be productive with free time. I do that most of the time. But also, I'm female and would like to have a family, and have to acknowledge my physical limitations for doing so. Yeah, I tried with the persuasion of some friends Tindr for a total of twenty hours before I deleted the app and curled up in a corner to decompress. It was probably one of the most horrific things I've ever seen when it comes to relationships.

I can get a guy's attention but it seems that once I let him know that I want a meaningful relationship instead of a passing fling he usually leaves. Dating for me has mostly been me sitting on the sidelines trying to keep myself occupied with other things that people generally aren't in to. I would much rather find someone in real life than through a 2-D profile and a short bio.

I feel like love needs to be more than that.

God Tindr is the fucking worst. I matched with three women, talked to 2 1 never responded , but after they discovered I actually wanted to get to know them as people and not just hook up communication ceased abruptly. I'm glad someone shares my disdain.

Haha After about the third "hey, wanna shower with me" and the umpteenth nude request I was officially done. I just don't roll like that. Do you like expensive cars and football? Anyway, I sometimes get these little glimpses into the world of being female, and every time I hear about the things we men say and do, I cringe. I cringe so hard. I actually run too, but I hate every single second of it. I do it to keep myself more-not-pale and less sickly than the average book jockey. It kinda works sometimes a little. I like vintage cars and baseball actually.

Haha But not all men are bad. Women can be just as bad if not worse at times. But you didn't hear that from me. And I actually like to run in a sick sort of way.

AN INFP’S SAD FORAY INTO ONLINE DATING – the WINDOW

It's my time to be aggressive and let off some steam while I involuntarily break myself down. I actually like running too. Sometimes I get so tired of fighting the world mentally that I need to fight physically and get physically tired. It's a nice change.

In a masochistic way. It feels like I am literally pouring out whatever frustrations I have without taking it out on the people closest to me. That and sometimes I feel like Rocky. Although my experience was with Match. I think it just comes down to the fact that I don't want to date someone just for the sake of dating. I'm not like that. I want to date someone because I really like him and think there's a true connection.

I just don't get that off the internet. But I don't want to be alone forever either I'm not that desperate. I'll stick by my principles. Just say no to online dating! Yes, I have been thinking along the lines of quick type identification too. As I get older, I figure out better who I get along with and who I don't. At the same time, I don't want to generalize people too much.

And here's the editorial: I also find SJs soul-crushing! But I find quite a few NTs arrogant and I absolutely hate arrogance! I have been attracted to SPs lately because they bring out a side of me I never knew I had. I knew a girl who would only use online dates to get free food and movies.

I've been completely jaded about the whole online thing since then. I have met people online, though. I met my boyfriend on reddit. Thank-you everyone for commiserating! I really needed that.
